T-Mobile “Officially” Confirms Google Phone

streamline

T-Mobile has gone and made their expected support of the Google Phone aka Nexus One “official” this morning, albeit in a vague sort of way. According to our sources, through an internal system T-Mobile is reporting they are getting an Android device but won’t do any support for it other than “billing, coverage, features and rate plans, as we have previously stated. All troubleshooting and exchanges will be managed by Google and HTC. Launch is ‘early January.’” That’s all we’re hearing right now but we’re reaching out to sources across the board looking to find out more. Hopefully we’ll have some pictures here in a few minutes!

Right now we are hearing January 5th still, early in the morning but we can’t say if thats T-Mobile, Google or both. Hopefully with this new confirmed information, leaks will get a little more “leakable” regarding launch dates, pricing etc…

With the revelation that Apple had acquired the iSlate.com domain and iSlate trademarks, it seemed clear to us that iSlate was the likely name for Apple's upcoming tablet computer. While we agree with skeptics that these historic actions can't prove Apple's intent to follow through, we still think they are a very clear signal.

In order to confirm or deny the belief that Apple may have registered alternative options for their upcoming tablet, we did some extensive research looking for evidence for more of these hidden trademark and domain registrations. In the end, we were able to find one other trademark registration that was made on behalf of Apple through a company called iGuide Media, LLC.

iGuide Media, LLC. is another Delaware-based company whose sole purpose appears to be to obtain a trademark on behalf of Apple, Inc. In this case they have a single trademark application for the term "iGuide" that is currently pending. The application was first filed in December 2007. Again, we found Apple's Senior Trademark Specialist Regina Porter's signatures on the trademark documents linking iGuide Media, LLC to Apple, Inc. Meanwhile, the lawyer handling the paperwork for the iGuide trademark is the same lawyer who filed for the iPhone trademark under Ocean Telecom Services, also on behalf of Apple. Like iSlate, it seems clear that Apple created iGuide Media, LLC to obtain the iGuide trademark.

iGuide seems like it could be another possible name for Apple's upcoming tablet computer or a related software or service. In fact, the trademark classification for iGuide seems to be particularly telling. While most of these classifications seem to cover an overly broad range of possibilties, iGuide's paints a picture of an all-purpose media browser:

Computer hardware and computer software for accessing, browsing, searching, recording, organizing, storing, transmitting, receiving, manipulating, streaming, reproducing, playing, and reviewing audio, video, games, music, television, movies, photographs, and other multimedia content

Even more revealing was a later passage which describes downloadable electronic content of a wide variety:

Downloadable electronic publications in the nature of books, magazines, newsletters, journals, and blogs in the fields of entertainment, sports, science, history, culture, celebrities, news, current events, politics, technology, and education;

This description mirrors many of the recent rumors that Apple had approached magazines and newspapers to provide their content in a format for the upcoming tablet. iGuide, of course, could also describe a service or software application that might launch alongside the tablet itself.

So for those who weren't happy with iSlate as the possible name for the Apple Tablet, iGuide appears to be another option, though frankly, we still prefer iSlate. It might make more sense if iGuide were to be related service or software to the Apple tablet.

What are the most popular searches on any given search engine? Many search engines and sites keep track of the popular searches on the Web, either in real time or in archived lists that you can use to track trends.

Researching what people are searching for on the Web is a great way to keep up with popular buzz, figure out what people are looking for and give it to them on your blog or website, or heck - it's a fun way to pass the time. Here are just a few of the sites that track what people are searching for:

  • Google Zeitgeist: Google reveals what the top searches are by week, month, and year. Also includes a look at what the most popular searches are in other countries than the United States.
  • Ask Top Searches: Ask.com breaks the searches down by week ending and advancing, top news searches, and if there's a holiday anywhere near, the top searches for that particular week.
  • Yahoo! Buzz Index: Yahoo goes way further than the other two sites already mentioned in its in-depth coverage of the most popular searches, including a "Today's Top Movers" category with clickable links. In addition, top searches are broken down into actors, movies, sports, etc., with constantly updated short articles to the right of the top search chart. This is where I go to get in-depth information fast on the most popular searches in relatively real-time.
  • AOL Hot Searches: Find out what people are searching for in real-time at AOL Search. These are updated every 12 seconds! Also includes links to AOL Buzzline, Top Searches of the year, TV's Top Five, and more.
  • MSN Search Insider: MSN Search throws its' hat into the most popular searches ring; including a list of the Top 200, Duels (you can vote for your favorite to "win" the search race. Cheesy, but kind of fun), and various top media searches.
  • Lycos Top 50: Lycos has been around forever (at least in Internet years) and has a pretty good Most Popular Searches site. Includes Lycos Top 50, Top 50 blog, Top 50 Archives (at this writing all the way back to 1999), and a focus on whatever holiday day or week might be around the corner.
  • MetaCrawler: The most popular searches on this search engine are visible in real time, refreshed every 15 seconds. In addition, you can cruise along with MetaCrawler's trenchcoat wearing mascot and "get a no-holds-barred (unfiltered) look at the search queries of MetaCrawler users." It's interesting to see what real people are searching for, and might give you some interesting ideas to spice up your search engine optimization efforts.
  • Nielsen/Net-Rati ngs: Not so much a "top searches" as a popular searches statistics site. Click on "country", and then click on "web usage data." You'll see interesting little tidbits such as "sessions/visits per person", "duration of a Web page viewed", and "PC time per person." No, it's not as thrilling as seeing which reality TV show is winning the top search race, but it's educational and therefore good for you.
  • ZDNet UK Most Popular Searches: Find out what other techno-geeks are searching for. Clickable links go to both related articles on ZDNet (and they're very extensive, a nice feature) or to Web results.
  • Bloglines.com: Read the most popular blogs of the day at Bloglines; you'll be able to see what top searches and Web buzzwords are travelling through the blogosphere here.
  • Dogpile Search Spy: Family-friendly and unedited versions available.
  • Technorati: View the front page of Technorati to get a quick glimpse at what people are talking about in real-time; updated very frequently.
